Sometimes an otherwise attractive smile can look a little ‘gummy’ where too much gum tissue is exposed during smiling and talking. This can make it look as if the teeth are a bit too short but often a gummy smile is caused by an excess of gum tissue covering up teeth that are the correct length underneath.
How Crown Lengthening Can Improve a Smile
If your teeth are covered up with too much gum tissue, our dentist can carefully reshape your gums removing excess tissue to create a more cosmetically pleasing appearance. Sometimes it may only be necessary to reshape the gums around one or two teeth, while in other cases it may be beneficial to reshape most of the gums visible when you smile. Crown lengthening is also sometimes used to prepare teeth for crowns and where the natural tooth has broken off close to the gum. By exposing more of the tooth, we can successfully place a crown, restoring your smile.
